Unique Raw Production
Raw and Sustainable Production of Lifefood Dates

Dates are grown on trees just like figs, pomegranates and other fruits, and the date palms can be found in small oases in the heart of the desert. Cooperatives manage limited supply of water, and each farmer takes care of the watering cycle to achieve optimal usage of this precious resource. Our supplier shares some rather interesting and optimistic facts about the local farmers’ training and education which covers matters such as organic cultivation, conservation and preservation.

Dates are the real wealth of the region. But the fluctuating yields complicate the situation for small farmers, who own on average less than one acre of land. Thanks to stable fair trade pricing, suppliers are trying to improve the situation and provide the farmers’ families with long-term perspectives. This is why organic farming is so important for this region.

The time of harvest in October has become the major event of the year and the entire yearly income of farmers’ families depends on it. Suppliers buy directly from farmers. The dates are cleaned and packed in a production plant in the town of Kebili, providing a job and income for over a hundred women in a very good working environment.
